This Privacy Policy explains what information Northbound Vermont ("we," "us") collects when you visit northboundvermont.com (the "Website"), how we use it, and the choices you have. Reservations are not made on this Website. They are handled by Airbnb (see "Booking through Airbnb"). The Website is primarily intended for visitors in the United States.
Who we are and how to contact us
Northbound Vermont operates this Website. For privacy questions or requests, email northboundvermont@gmail.com.
Information we collect
Contact form. If you use our Contact form, we collect the information you enter: your name, email address, an optional subject, and your message. The Website also records technical details with each submission, including your IP address, your browser and device information (user-agent), and the page you submitted from. We use this information to read and respond to your inquiry and to protect the form from misuse.
Each submission is stored in the Website's WordPress dashboard (Elementor Submissions) and is also emailed to us at a Gmail address, a service provided by Google. Sending a contact-form message does not subscribe you to any mailing list.
Technical information. When you visit, our web host (HostGator) and the Website's software process technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you request, and the date and time. This is needed to deliver and secure the Website.
Analytics (Google Analytics 4). We use Google Analytics 4, connected through the Site Kit by Google plugin, to understand how the Website is used, such as which pages are viewed, approximate location, device and browser, how visitors arrive, and whether a visitor clicks through to our Airbnb listing. Google Analytics uses cookies named _ga and _ga_ followed by an identifier, and similar technologies. We do not send your name, email address, or the contents of any message to Google Analytics.
Cookies, analytics and your choices
We use Complianz, a cookie-consent tool, to show a cookie banner. The Website uses an opt-out approach for analytics, which is the common approach for visitors in the United States:
- Analytics may start before you choose. Google Analytics may begin collecting information, and set its
_gacookies, when you load a page, before you make any choice in the cookie banner. - How to opt out. The cookie banner shows an "Accept" button and a link called "Opt-out preferences." Select "Opt-out preferences" to open our Opt-out preferences page. On that page, under "4.1 Manage your opt-out preferences," find "Statistics" and switch it off. Your choice is saved immediately. If you also switch off "Marketing," the same applies to marketing and third-party content such as the embedded Google map. Once you opt out, we stop further Google Analytics measurement of your visits on this Website. The Google tag file still loads from Google's servers on each page, so Google may still receive basic technical information such as your IP address and browser details from that request.
- Cookies already set are not automatically deleted. Opting out does not remove
_gacookies that were set before you opted out. You can delete them in your browser settings. You can also use Google's browser add-on for opting out of Google Analytics (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout). - Change your choice at any time. After you make a choice, a "Manage consent" button appears on the Website. Selecting it reopens the cookie banner, and you can also return to the Opt-out preferences page at any time.
- Other cookies. Necessary and functional cookies keep the Website working and remember your cookie choice. Content from some third parties, such as the embedded Google map, is loaded only after you consent to it.
- Browser opt-out signals. We have not confirmed that the Website recognizes browser-based opt-out signals such as Global Privacy Control. Please use the controls above to opt out.
Visitors outside the United States. The Website is primarily directed at U.S. visitors, but privacy laws of other countries may still apply to visitors from those countries, including the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. Our current cookie setup is an opt-out setup: it does not ask for your consent before analytics begins. If you are in one of those regions and do not want analytics, please use the opt-out controls above or email us, and we will respond to your requests as required by the laws that apply.
Third-party services on the Website
- Google Analytics 4 (Google), as described above.
- Google Maps. The homepage can show an embedded Google Maps driving route to Jay Peak Resort. It loads only after you consent to third-party content. When it loads, Google may set cookies and receive information about your visit.
- OpenStreetMap-based maps. The map on the Things to Do page loads map tiles from OpenFreeMap (using OpenStreetMap data) and the Leaflet map library from unpkg.com. Loading the page sends your IP address and browser details to those providers.
- Website fonts are served from our own site, not from Google's font servers.
- Social media. Our links to Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube take you to those sites, which have their own privacy practices. We do not embed their content.
- Hosting and email. HostGator hosts the Website. Gmail (Google) receives contact-form messages.
Booking through Airbnb
"Book Your Stay" buttons link to our listing on Airbnb (airbnb.com/h/northboundvermont), which opens in a new tab. Availability, rates, reservations, payments and messages with guests are handled by Airbnb, not by this Website, and Airbnb's own privacy policy and terms apply. This Website does not collect payment details. Unless you have opted out of analytics, we may record that you clicked through to Airbnb. A click is not a reservation, and no booking or payment information is sent to Google Analytics.
Optional email updates (planned)
We plan to offer an optional email list for special offers, seasonal availability, travel inspiration and future direct-booking opportunities. This feature is not yet available on the Website. When it launches, subscribing will require a separate, voluntary sign-up that you complete yourself, and it will be separate from your cookie choices.
We will not subscribe you automatically when you send a contact-form message, make a cookie choice, or book through Airbnb, and we will not import Airbnb guests' contact information into the list. Anyone, including a past or future guest, may choose to subscribe on their own through the Website. Every marketing email will include a way to unsubscribe, and you can unsubscribe at any time. Before the feature launches, we will update this policy to name the email service we use and describe what it collects.
How we use information
- To respond to your questions and inquiries
- To operate, secure and maintain the Website
- To understand and improve the Website through analytics, unless you opt out
- To send marketing emails, only if you separately subscribe once that feature is available
- To meet legal obligations and keep appropriate business records
We do not use contact-form messages for unsolicited marketing.
We do not currently sell your information
We do not currently sell visitor personal information, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information with the service providers described above only as needed to operate the Website, and where required by law.
How long we keep information
We keep information for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to inquiries and maintain appropriate business records, subject to applicable law. Contact-form submissions are stored in the Website's dashboard and in our email until we delete them. Analytics data is kept according to our Google Analytics settings, and server logs are kept by our hosting provider under its own practices.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, including under certain U.S. state privacy laws, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to request that we correct or delete it, to opt out of certain uses, and to withdraw consent. To make a request, email northboundvermont@gmail.com. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request, and we will not treat you differently for making a request. You can change your cookie choices as described above, and you can unsubscribe from any marketing email once an email list is available.
Children
The Website is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through the Website. Families are welcome at the cabin. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
Where information is processed
Our service providers, including Google and our hosting provider, are based in the United States and may process information in the United States and other countries where they operate.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date shows the current version.
